Learn how your restaurant can bring in customers that keep coming back with Daily Deal sites
We wanted to share something with you that you’d find helpful – if things have been a little quiet recently.
You’ve probably come across the likes of Groupon, Wowcher and LivingSocial. These Daily Deal sites offer punters a special deal for a limited time only.
It’s one of the best ways to promote your restaurant nowadays in Yorkshire.
People go crazy for these vouchers. Often restaurants, pubs and hotels are amazed by the amount of business these sites can drum up.
Just at the time of writing 839 meals-for-two have been sold by The Gardener’s Country Inn in Coniston, through Groupon.
The audience of these sites come from miles around. You can bring in new customers who’d never otherwise know you existed..
But it’s worth knowing how to make these sites work for you because if you’re not careful they can cause problems.
What’s the catch?
Typically the daily deal sites take about 50% of the voucher price. That might seem a little steep and lead to small loss on each customer.
But here’s the trick to making the most of these sites. You use them to bring people in. You give them a great experience, and the customers will be coming back again and again. If they enjoy themselves they’ll be telling their friends and family about you.
You could also create a specific diner package that lets you make a small profit.
And knowing that the people from these sites typically like a deal – you could offer them a voucher for 10% on their next visit as they leave.
Daily deal sites however need a health warning. You’ll need to be cautious about how many people you offer your deals to. A few years, a cake shop offered a deal and sold 102,000 cupcakes without realising.
They had to draft in 25 temporary staff to fill the orders, wiping out most of their annual profits.
The lesson here is that it’s important to put a cap on how many deals you’re happy to sell, because your deal might become a bit too popular.
